Finally Easter is almost here! I just love Easter time and all spring flowers I know will be coming out soon!! Easter lilies are one of the most beautiful fragrant flowers of the season. They hold a special meaning at this time of year. Easter flowers to me are a promise for new beginning of things to come. I grew up in Long Island New York in an area that took Easter very seriously. I remember coming home and seeing the big basket of spring flowers from my dad on the table. That’s when I knew the baskets of candy will soon be following. The Easter morning service was filled with kids fidgeting around in their seats, just waiting to go outside. The flower arrangements at the alter were breath taking and the fragrance takes back to that time every time I smell all the lilies, hyacinths, stock, tulips and roses. We would get all dressed up in our dresses and frilly socks and hats and the boys in their new suits. The family would start coming over with Easter bread and Easter flowers. The Easter bread had a colored egg in the middle of it and was delicious!! My mom would decorate with flowers and those eggs made out of pure sugar with the chick or bunny inside it, I thought they were magical! I bet a lot of people could remember that era in time. My dad used to make the Easter pie. The layers of eggs and ricotta, ham and dough…..yum!!! I love to reminisce about the Easters gone by and tell my grand kids about when I grew up, try to keep it alive. This day and age needs some traditional values to guide them. After dinner we would blow up balloons and wrap them in colored string, have mom make us her “special glue”. (flour, water and food color) We would paint them in the glue and let them dry. We then broke the balloon and had our Easter egg to put all our treats in. I liked to hang mine in the trees and make them in different sizes and colors. Made a really pretty decoration. That’s The New Port Richey Florist Easter story, we would love for you to share yours with us!!! Happy Easter to every one!!! Hope you blessed with family and friends gathered together to celebrate.
